I have transcribed the Italian but still have to proof because as I am not terrific in Italian, obviously there will be mistakes! Now in its nd straight year of uninterrupted print yes, you read that right.
Barbanera was once one among dozens of almanacs printed in Italy — some national, some local, and many tailored to a specific readership young women or farmers, for example — which were distributed at the village markets by traveling peddlers who crisscrossed the peninsula. It had a planting guide, religious verse and calendar for significant events, and other details that made me feel I was really part of a community rather than a tourist buying a coffee-table book.
