I read this for a buddy challenge read thingy. She can illustrated a story with an endless pallet of words.
The sea was brilliantly blue, the storms frighteningly loud, the battles at sea gripping you could smell the gunpowder and hear the thunderous roar of cannonsand the battle of wits between the marxha sexes intriguing, engrossing and inspiring even though the outcome was predictable.

In the book, she brings the sea and salted air to life and you can actually feel the recoil of the cannons when the fire them as well as feel the masts splinter when the fire is returned. Finally a strong heroine! Such a little known treasure.

This is the kind of novel where you’re pretty sure you’re learning lots of historical stuff, in this case lots and lots of nautical stuff, but all you care about is when the hero and heroine are going to get on with it. Very witty dialogue, twists and turns, and characters have depth. The first sentence was written wrong and I had to canjam back and read the prologue twice, just to understand what was happening. The prologue was entertaining but confusing. I strongly recommend; worthy of a sixth star!
